Shiyan lies in northwestern Hubei and is one of the main gateways to Wudang Mountain. A trip focused on historic mountain architecture and Taoist culture benefits from a slower pace, with time for mountain-road journeys and rest as well as sightseeing. The Wudang Mountain scenic area is not adjacent to central Shiyan; decide where to base yourself before booking transport and hotels.

First visit

Arrive and settle in Shiyan

Start with arrival and where to stay, then choose your sights. Recheck transport and accommodation details before booking.

Check the station and scenic area transfers first+

Compare railway stations such as Shiyan East and Wudangshan West, choosing your arrival point according to your onward destination. A transfer is still needed from the station to the scenic area visitor centre. Check departures, last services and fares before travelling.

Weigh stays at the foot of the mountain against stays on it+

Accommodation at the foot of the mountain is convenient for arrival and supplies. Staying on the mountain helps split sightseeing into stages, but check luggage transport, dining and night-time access. Do not judge access from accommodation to the mountain entrance by straight-line distance alone.
