Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Pilgrimage Circuit
Jokhang Temple is the spiritual focus of Lhasa and a central component of the UNESCO ensemble. Around it, Barkhor is simultaneously a clockwise pilgrimage circuit, market, residential quarter and everyday public space. Its meaning comes from continued worship and neighbourhood life, not only historic façades. Visitors should read the temple, circumambulation and surrounding lanes as one living cultural landscape while leaving worshippers room and residents privacy.

Walk from the old-city perimeter after the current security check; vehicle access is restricted. Keep meeting points outside narrow pilgrimage flows.
Practical notes
Follow signed clockwise movement, dress modestly and keep voices low. Never photograph worshippers closely or temple interiors without explicit permission, and do not step over prostrating pilgrims or interrupt queues.
