Nanjing Presidential Palace
The Presidential Palace complex contains overlapping layers from Ming princely grounds and Qing administration to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the provisional republic and the Nationalist government. Offices, gardens and exhibition halls explain why this address repeatedly became a political centre. The site should be read as a reused architectural landscape, not only the story of one administration.

Daxinggong metro station is nearby. Follow the reserved entrance, and expect a different exit after the long one-way visitor route.
Practical notes
The complex is larger than it appears. Read the chronological signs, distinguish reconstructed interiors from surviving fabric and avoid combining it with another major museum in a short time slot.
