Shichahai Historic Area
Shichahai links Qianhai, Houhai and Xihai with one of central Beijing's largest surviving historic neighbourhoods. Lakeside paths, hutong lanes, former residences, temples and mansion gardens reveal several layers of urban life rather than a single ticketed attraction. Its character changes sharply between quiet mornings, active afternoons and brightly lit evenings.

Getting there
Shichahai station is the most direct rail access. The area is best explored on foot and can connect to the Bell and Drum Towers, Prince Kung's Mansion or Beihai Park.
Practical notes
Treat rickshaw tours, boating, skating and private venues as separate commercial services and confirm prices before use. Keep voices low in residential lanes and avoid photographing residents at close range without permission.
