Practical notes

Reservation needed Free but timed; reserve on the official WeChat account. Foreign passports are booked the same way and checked at the manual gate. Closed Mondays. Start with the Jiahu bone flutes, cut from crane wing bones nine thousand years ago and still playable, then the Shang and Zhou bronzes: the Fu Hao owl vessel, the lotus-and-crane pot, the cloud-pattern altar table cast in lost wax. The Huaxia Ancient Music ensemble plays replicas of the instruments downstairs a few times a day.
