德钦
Deqin
Deqin occupies a steep highland borderland where the Lancang, Jinsha and Nu river systems cut through the Three Parallel Rivers landscape beneath Meili and Baima snow mountains. Tibetan villages, pilgrimage routes, vineyards and historic religious sites are separated by demanding roads and large elevation changes. Travel slowly, respect sacred mountains and living communities, and keep spare time for weather and road disruption.

Make the city tangible.
梅里雪山
Meili Snow Mountain
Meili Snow Mountain is a major landscape whose scale, setting and local conditions reward advance planning rather than a rushed stop.
飞来寺梅里雪山观景带
Feilai Temple and Meili Snow Mountain Viewpoints
The Feilai Temple corridor faces the Meili range across the Lancang valley and is the most accessible place to understand Kawagarbo's scale and sacred status. View platforms, village lodging and the religious landscape now coexist with heavy photography demand. Kawagarbo is protected from climbing for cultural reasons; watching from a legal viewpoint respects that boundary. Sunrise illumination depends entirely on cloud, moisture and light and cannot be promised.
雨崩村与开放徒步线
Yubeng Village and Open Trails
Yubeng is a living Tibetan village beneath the Meili range and a base for strenuous routes toward waterfalls, glacial valleys and high lakes. Farming, pastoral work, pilgrimage and tourism share narrow paths and limited waste and water systems. Route popularity does not make the terrain easy: every excursion needs a current opening check, daylight margin, suitable footwear and a decision to turn around before altitude, storms or fatigue become emergencies.
明永冰川
Mingyong Glacier
Mingyong descends dramatically from the Meili massif toward the warm, dry Lancang valley, making vertical climate and glacier retreat unusually visible. Modern boardwalks and observation points intentionally keep visitors away from unstable ice, moraine and meltwater. The glacier is changing, so the position shown in old photographs is not a safe target; current barriers, rockfall warnings and staff instructions define the visit.
白马雪山公路观景廊道
Baima Snow Mountain Road Corridor
Baima Snow Mountain marks a high ecological transition of conifer forest, alpine shrub, meadow and snowy ridges. The road corridor can reveal vertical vegetation and wildlife habitat without requiring mountaineering, but high passes are vulnerable to snow, ice, fog and closure. Protected species and forest ecosystems matter more than improvised roadside wildlife pursuit, and older road sections are not automatically open.
茨中教堂
Cizhong Catholic Church
Cizhong Church reflects the complex religious and cultural encounters of the upper Lancang valley. European-derived church form, local building practice, vineyards and a Tibetan village setting have developed together rather than as isolated curiosities. It remains a place of worship and community memory, so architectural interest should not override services, privacy or the right of residents to use their own space without becoming exhibits.
Local snacks

Salty, buttery and tea-forward
Deqin Butter Tea
德钦酥油茶
Strong tea is churned with butter and salt into a warming drink central to highland hospitality and everyday energy.
Sip slowly and follow the host's cues for refills. It contains dairy and sodium and is not prevention or treatment for altitude illness.
Toasty, nutty and softly savoury
Deqin Roasted Barley Tsampa
德钦糌粑
Roasted highland-barley flour is mixed with butter tea or milk and kneaded into compact portions for a practical staple.
Mix a small amount at a time. Barley contains gluten and butter-tea versions contain dairy; ask before adding sugar.
Chewy, meaty, salty and spiced
Deqin Yak Jerky
德钦牦牛肉干
Lean yak meat is salted, seasoned and dried into a dense portable snack suited to small servings during road journeys.
Choose sealed, traceable products and drink water. It is high in sodium; sauces may contain soy or gluten, and jerky does not replace a balanced meal.
Tangy, milky and dense
Deqin Dried Milk Curd
德钦奶渣
Cultured milk solids are drained and dried into tart, firm pieces eaten alone or softened in tea and porridge.
Try a small piece first and choose hygienically stored products. It contains dairy and can be hard to chew when fully dried.
