呼伦贝尔
Hulunbuir
Hulunbuir is a vast border region rather than a single compact city: Hailar, grassland rivers, Erguna wetlands, Greater Khingan forests, lakes and communities of many cultural traditions are separated by long journeys. Plan it as a circuit with realistic driving time, and understand grassland, wetland and forest as working protected ecosystems—not empty scenery available for off-road shortcuts.

呼伦贝尔大草原
Hulunbuir Grassland
Hulunbuir Grassland is a major landscape whose scale, setting and local conditions reward advance planning rather than a rushed stop.
莫尔格勒河草原
Morigele River Grassland
The Morigele winds through broad meadow steppe whose appearance changes with rainfall, grazing and season. Scenic overlooks reveal river meanders and the scale of the grassland, while pastoral production and Mongolian cultural life continue beyond visitor facilities. Use designated routes: vehicle tracks compact soil, fragment vegetation and disturb livestock, so a photograph never justifies driving onto unapproved grassland.
额尔古纳湿地
Erguna Wetland
Erguna's protected wetlands occupy the transition between Greater Khingan forest and Hulunbuir grassland, combining river channels, marsh, wet meadow and wooded slopes. Elevated paths and viewpoints let visitors understand water storage and habitat without entering saturated ground. The familiar scenic area is only a managed window onto a much larger wetland system, so access barriers and seasonal closures are ecological protection rather than inconvenience.
莫尔道嘎国家森林公园
Mordaoga National Forest Park
Mordaoga protects a northern Greater Khingan forest landscape of larch, birch, river valleys and changing autumn colour. Visitor roads and rail-style experiences reveal only selected parts of a much larger working and protected forest. Its history includes forestry as well as conservation, so interpretation should consider both human use and ecosystem recovery rather than presenting the trees as untouched wilderness.
呼伦湖
Hulun Lake
Hulun Lake is a large shallow steppe lake and an important northern bird habitat within a nationally protected landscape. Its shoreline, water level and bird concentrations vary with season and hydrology. Visitors should use managed access areas and treat fishing closures, shuttle systems and shoreline barriers as part of ecological recovery. A wide horizon is the experience; close wildlife encounters are neither necessary nor guaranteed.
海拉尔博物馆
Hailar Museum
Hailar Museum uses the reconstructed deputy lieutenant's office setting and collections to introduce Qing and early twentieth-century border administration, military affairs and regional exchange. The displays help place grassland travel within a longer history of institutions, mobility and multiethnic communities. Because parts of the architectural setting are modern reconstruction, distinguish the museum's historical evidence and objects from its interpretive stage design.
Local snacks

Meaty, clean, tender and lightly salty
Hulunbuir Hand-boiled Mutton
呼伦贝尔手把肉
Fresh bone-in mutton is simmered simply and cut at the table, emphasising the meat's flavour rather than heavy seasoning.
Share in small portions, use a clean knife and ensure meat is fully cooked. Ask about halal handling and soy- or gluten-containing dipping sauces.
Milky, salty, toasty and warming
Salted Mongolian Milk Tea
咸奶茶
Brick tea is boiled with milk and salt, sometimes enriched with millet, butter or dried curds for a warming everyday drink.
Sip hot and ask what additions are included. It contains dairy, can be high in sodium and may contain gluten through grain additions or shared preparation.
Crusty, wheaty, mildly sour and aromatic
Erguna Russian-style Leba Bread
额尔古纳列巴
A large round loaf is fermented and baked in Russian-influenced family traditions, often sliced with butter, jam or local honey.
Buy a cut portion unless sharing a whole loaf. It contains gluten and may contain dairy, egg, raisins or nuts; ask before eating.
Tangy, milky and sometimes lightly sweet
Mongolian Milk Curd
奶豆腐
Milk is cultured, cooked and drained into firm curds that can be eaten fresh, dried for travel or softened in hot tea.
Try a small portion because dried curd is dense. It contains dairy; choose hygienically packaged products and check refrigeration for fresh versions.
